£13.982off at £6.99 Gripmat for the 10 drawers Next to the lathe is a little metal cabinet which contains the parts and accesories, these are all sliding around which damages them and makes htem difficult to keep organised, so we want to add standard grip mat.(There are 10 drawers which are each 235mm by 365mm). https://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-77125045-grip-mat-black/4751t#product_additional_details_container
£44.991500 X 900mm Gripmat for floor area Lathes frequently use cutting fluid or coolant, if that spills and the floor becomes slippery, there is a risk that the operator slips and falls, while the lathe is turning. The main item is the Lathe Chuck Guard with interlock. This is an essential modern safety measure - see this thread where I posted a short explaination: https://bristolhackspace.discourse.group/t/metal-lathe-update-chuck-guard/579 . It's in the (draft) risk assessment for the metal lathe, without adequate guarding, we can't sign off the risk assessment to approve the safe use of the lathe. The remainder of the list are small parts, mostly replacing worn out cutting tools.

Where will you buy this thing? Where's the money going?

  • See the links above for the list of the UK suppliers.

I've got 3 quotes and recommendations for suitable guards from 3 different suppliers:

  • 1 Solonsystems.co.uk £414 inc
  • 2 Machinecovers.co.uk ~£410 inc
  • 3 Silvaflame.co.uk £254 inc vat and delivery ←So we are going with the cheapest.

How exactly will what you buy fit into hackspace and who will install it?

  • Most of these parts go in the metal tool drawers next to the lathe or will be installed on the athe.
  • For the chuck Guard, Drew will do the mechanical installation - it's 2 bolt holes in the lathe. Sam has offered to help with the electrical installation. Estimated 2 hours.
  • £ 459.36
  • full funded by Hackspace

The existing metal lathe.
