During our last meeting we discussed the purchase of two hand sanders for our woodworking room as all of our sanders have broken. So I propose;

1. DEWALT DWE6441 2.4 Amp 1/4 Sheet Palm Grip Sander with Cloth Dust Bag (£74.99) Reason: An orbital sander which uses sanding sheets/rolls which are currently on our consumables list (ranging from 80 grit to 240 grit). This would be the ‘workhorse’ unit and by using supplied sandpaper (on the consumables list), will lower the expenses for members.

  • Unordered List Item230W / 14,000 opm
  • Hook & Loop AND Clamp Fixing
  • Ergonomic Grip / Anti-vibration.
  • It features a 100% sealed ball bearing construction which extends the machine’s life considerably
  • 3 Years warranty (1 with screwfix, next two done directly through DeWalt)
  • High capacity dust bag with built in vacuum adaptor allowing connection to AirLock or standard 35mm adaptor
  • Dual plane counter-balance low-vibration design reduces user fatigue

2. MAKITA BO5041/2 125MM ELECTRIC RANDOM ORBIT SANDER 240V (£99.99) Reason: A random orbital sander for finer grit finishing (280 grit and higher) and members will be responsible for purchasing the required round sandpaper sheets. This will be used for detailed work and will therefore last longer as it won’t be used for the heavy duty work.

  • 300W
  • Variable speed control dial (4000-12,000 opm) enables user to match the sanding speed to the application
  • Efficient through-the-pad dust collection system with dust bag for a cleaner work environment
  • Adjustable front handle to allow for sanding in corners and confined areas
  • Utilises 5“ hook-and-loop abrasive discs for fast and easy installation
  • 3-year warranty (all with Screwfix)

3. Toolpak 5” (125MM) Sanding & Polishing Kit 6PCS (£15.99) Reason: This is a hook and loop adapter for a common drill and a few pads so anyone who wants a mirror finish on projects can achieve it. https://www.screwfix.com/p/toolpak-5-125mm-sanding-polishing-kit-6pcs/36509

4. Replacement bags for our shop vac. (£5.50) https://www.wickes.co.uk/Vacuum-Cleaner-Filter-Bags-Pack-of-3/p/505032

5. Extraction Cyclone Separator dust Separator Filter (£29.99) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087CZRF2R/?coliid=I1DYSTNG243TE&colid=HRVRATRXATDJ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

6. Oipps 30 Litre Plastic Blue Open Top Barrel with Lid & Ring (£21.39) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07JHCV1NR/?coliid=IO0IGKCPG07G&colid=HRVRATRXATDJ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Proposed Purchase:

The sanders and polishing pads will be purchased through Screwfix. The cyclone and barrel will be purchased through Amazon Prime. Proposed Installation: These items will fit in the sanding cupboard in the woodwork room. I will create space for them in the drawers with customised holdings so they don’t move around in the drawer and get damaged. I will also make sure that the sanders are labelled so members know which sandpaper grit should be used with each one.

I will register the warranties before they are installed in the Hackspace and personally take care of repairs if damaged while under warranty. I will assemble the extraction system and ensure it works with the sanders.
